About AdaptABILITY Homes

AdaptABILITY Homes was born out of the recognition that people want to stay in their home longer. It is about addressing the concerns of living forward through three forms of liveABILITY.  Whether it is through new home construction, in-home evaluation, or digital caregiving, we found that offering services such as design and consultation to help people age in place are imperative.  Partnering with Steven Sgro Builders, utilizing a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, and being an Authorized Affiliate for envoyatHome, ensure that we are your go to for helping you stay safe and independent.

About the Certified Aging in Place Designation

Aging in Place is the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level.

Our Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, CAPS, is trained in the unique needs of the older adult population.  However, any age can benefit from this approach. CAPSs apply strategies and techniques by building comprehensive and practical home modification solutions. Taken into consideration are any chronic or progressive conditions that address mobility, orthopedic, sensory and cognitive issues. Four out of five older adults, ages 50 and older suffer from at least on of these according to AARP. Although nonurgent, progressive, or traumatic changes can trigger a need for change, it is never too soon to begin to prepare.

About the Founder

Cathy Boerke started her career as a third-generation builder. Designing and building affordable homes for first time home buyers, she helped people find a way into home ownership without compromising integrity or quality of craftmanship.  Though planting her roots in real property locally, she moved to New York and began a career in real estate.

Upon her return, Cathy’s interest expanded to the needs of older adults and disabled individuals. She marketed home health, private duty, assisted living, and hospice for a local family-owned agency.  It was during that time that she became even more cognizant of the modifications needed in many homes to keep people from having to move.  In addition, she became aware of several reports indicating that people prefer to stay in their own home for as long as possible.
