Steven Sgro Builders Partners with Adaptability Homes
Celebrating 30 Years of Craftsmanship and Innovation
As Steven Sgro Builders marks its 30th anniversary, it brings decades of experience, integrity, and dedication to its new partnership with AdaptABILITY Homes. With a legacy rooted in three generations of builders, Steven knows what it takes to build not just houses—but homes that last.
Originally from Springfield, Illinois, Steven learned the family trade early, working alongside his father, uncle, and brother. He launched his own career by building in the Sgro family developments of Oakbrook Estates and The Willows in Chatham, as well as the final phases of Youngston Hills in Springfield, to name a few.
Steven’s commitment to meeting people’s needs began with his very first project in 1995. It included wheelchair-accessible features—a forward-thinking decision that laid the groundwork for his future focus on adaptability and inclusivity in homebuilding.

Over the years, Steven has remained dedicated to delivering high-quality craftsmanship, whether building spec homes or custom residences. His projects are always personalized, taking into account the unique lifestyle and long-term needs of each homeowner. From luxury finishes to zero-entry transitions, Steven’s attention to detail and uncompromising standards set him apart. Features that are considered upgrades by other builders are often included as standard in his homes.
By integrating smart technology and making subtle yet impactful design choices, Steven ensures his homes are built for longevity and ease of living—reducing the need for future modifications and helping homeowners stay in place longer.
Today, Steven Sgro Builders continues to use the most effective materials and technologies available, bringing a refined, modern approach to every project. For Steven, it’s never just about construction—it’s about building spaces that support and enrich the lives of the people who live in them.
Meet Cathy Boerke

What is Aging in Place
Aging in Place is the ability to live in your own home and community—safely, independently, and comfortably—regardless of age, income, or ability level. It’s a proactive approach to living that prioritizes dignity, autonomy, and long-term quality of life.
At AdaptABILITY Homes, our Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) is specifically trained to understand the evolving needs of older adults. But the benefits of this approach go far beyond age. People of all generations and abilities can enjoy greater ease and security through thoughtful, accessible home design.
CAPS professionals apply proven strategies to create comprehensive and practical home modification solutions. These plans take into account a range of physical and cognitive challenges, including:
- Chronic or progressive conditions
- Mobility or orthopedic concerns
- Sensory or cognitive impairments
According to the AARP, four out of five adults age 50 and older live with at least one of these conditions. While changes in ability may arise gradually, suddenly, or unexpectedly, planning ahead reduces stress and allows for smoother transitions.
It’s never too early to start preparing your home—and your life—for a safer, more independent future.

Cathy attained the Designation CAPS, Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, through the National Association of Home Builders. She involves herself in the Springfield community as President of the King’s Daughters Organization, and sits on the Boards for Sojourn Shelter & Services and Springfield Center for Independent Living. In addition, Cathy is a Dementia Friend Champion and a Community Ambassador for Heartland Continuum of Care.
